What is Tell A Friend King? Tell A Friend King is an easy to use, viral "Tell A Friend" marketing tool for your website. It will help you get more high-quality web traffic, better conversion rates, and honest visitor feedback.
How does it work?
It's Easy! You simply cut-and-paste a bit of text into your web pages. Your visitors can then use it to send personal messages to their friends, inviting them to that specific page, or any page you choose.
Now each friend receives an attractive, personalized invitation, from someone they know, recommending your website, along with an easy-to-follow link right to that page.

How long is it? 14 Days. What's included? Everything. You get full membership, the same as our paid members, for 14 days. There are no usage caps, disabled features, or 'trial version' notices. Do I need a credit card? No. Payment information is not necessary for your free trial. How do I start? Sign up through our free trial page. How do I change to paid membership? After logging in, your free trial can be upgraded from the 'My Account' page. If your free trial has already expired, logging in will bring you to the sign up page. Will my settings carry over to paid membership? Yes. There will be no disruption in service, and all of your settings, reports, etc. will be carried over. How do I cancel? It is not necessary to cancel your free trial - it will cancel itself if you choose not to sign up. However, if you want to cancel it ahead of time, you can do so from the 'My Account' page after logging in. Can I have extra time? Yes. If you need more time to test the service we'll be happy to extend your free trial. Just contact us to ask for a free trial extension. Will I be signed up automatically at the end? No. If you choose not to sign up, your free trial will simply cancel itself. top
Regular Membership:
How do I sign up? All memberships begin as free trials. To sign up for a regular membership, first sign up for a free trial here, then upgrade to regular membership from the 'My Account' page. Do you have different levels of membership? No. We don't have bronze, silver, gold, pro, etc. Our regular service and options can fit any website, and we want to spend our time adding new features, not disabling them to promote upgrades to more expensive levels. I have several websites - do I need multiple memberships? No. You can manage multiple forms and websites through a single membership. See your 'My Account' page after logging in. Are there usage limits, max. referrals per day, month, etc?
No. At this time we do not limit the number of referrals that can be received.
We use quality servers in an excellent datacenter and are happy to expand our resources as necessary to help our members get as many referrals as they can.
However, we do reserve the right to add usage limits if it ever becomes necessary.
We also reserve the right to move exceptionally active accounts to a custom version of our service on a dedicated server, to minimize their impact on our other members. In the years that we've been in business, this has never yet been necessary.

What does membership cost? For current pricing information, please see our membership fees. Will it renew automatically? Yes. Your membership will renew automatically until canceled. How often will it renew? Either monthly or yearly, depending on your preferences. Is there a minimum contract? No. You can cancel at any time. How do I cancel? You can cancel your membership by phone, email or though the contact form in the members section. What types of payment do you accept? We accept Visa, MasterCard, and American Express. We can also accept your check or PayPal payment, though we request annual renewal for these payment methods. If you would like to use check or PayPal, please contact us for instructions. top

Referral Routing:
Can visitors refer a specific page? Yes. The form will auto-detect the referred page, and send a link to that specific page. You can also override this with a landing page. Can I control what pages are referred? Yes. You can specify a landing page for the entire service, or on a per-button basis, which will override auto-detection of the referred page. Can people be referred from one page to another? Yes. Can I include a link to my home page? Yes. You can include a link to your home page, along with the page being referred. When someone 'tells a friend' from an email, what web page will be sent to their friends? You will specify the web address to be referred when you create the 'tell a friend' button for your email. This can be your home page, a general landing page, or a landing page for a mail-blast. Does it work with dynamic pages? Example: http://www.example.com/path/to/page.php?category=234&view=columns
Yes. As long as the page is specified through the URL, dynamic pages can be referred with no problem. Does it work with named anchors (page sections)? Example: http://www.example.com/page.html#page_section
Can I customize my 'tell a friend' buttons with my own text, images, rollovers, flash buttons, image maps, etc? Yes. You can use any text, image, image map, flash button, javascript rollover, etc. Any object that can be used as an Internet link or button can be used with Tell A Friend King. Can I use the same button on different pages? Yes. You can use the same button on any page of your website. When your visitors use the button it will auto-detect the page being referred, or you can specify a landing page. Can I use different buttons on the same page? Yes. You can use the same button in different places on a page, or different buttons on one page. This is very useful to catch your visitors attention at multiple focus-points, such as your page navigation, the bottom of an article, etc. Does TFK work with Flash sites? Yes. Will the buttons cause 'insecure items' browser alerts and broken locks on secure pages? No. As long as you use SSL for the form and buttons, you can safely add 'tell a friend' buttons to your secure pages without causing browser alerts. Will it hurt my SEO or search engine ranking? No - we don't think so. Only the search engines can say for sure what will or won't effect ranking for a website, but it's very unlikely that a link to your referral form will hurt your SEO. If anything, it might help. top
The 'Tell A Friend' Form:
Does a visitor have to leave the page to make a referral? No. They will be left on the original page after making a referral, unless you want them to be forwarded to a confirmation page. Will the 'tell a friend' form be blocked by pop-up blockers? No. The 'tell a friend' form is not a pop-up window. It won't be blocked by most pop-up blockers.
A 'pop-up' window opens automatically WITHOUT user permission or request. It is NOT triggered by the visitor.
The referral form opens in a new window, but only by the visitor's REQUEST. Since the visitor requests the form with a click, almost all pop-up blockers will allow it.
If an over-protective pop-up blocker does block the referral form, the script will detect this and ask the visitor to temporarily disable their pop-up blocker or allow an exception.
If that doesn't work, the script has an embedded plain HTML link that will open the window as a plain HTML link, without JavaScript.
Can I embed my referral form into a page on my website? Yes. Just specify 'embedded form' when you create the referral code to add to your website. Can I customize the 'tell a friend' form? Yes. You can upload your logo, specify your colors, and add special content to the form. Can I add custom content or incentives to the 'tell a friend' form? Yes. You can add your own content, special offers, coupons, rewards, etc, to the form. Can I use SSL for the form? Yes. Your referral buttons and form will work as regular links (http) or secure links (https) with SSL. Should I use SSL for the form? Using SSL encrypts communication between your website and visitors. This prevents other people from 'sniffing' or reading it along the way. A good rule of thumb is to use the SSL version of Tell A Friend King on any of your pages that would normally use SSL, and the plain version on other pages. Is there a difference between the SSL and regular version? No. All of your settings, reports, etc, are exactly the same. The only difference is that you use secure links (via https) to link to the secure version. Can I customize the 'tell a friend' form? Yes. You can upload your logo, specify your colors, and add special content to the form. Can I add custom content to the 'tell a friend' form? Yes. You can add your own content, special offers, coupons, rewards, etc, to the form. Can I offer incentives or rewards to referral senders? Yes. The 'Tell A Friend' Invitations:
What format are the referral emails sent out in? They are sent out in both HTML and plain text formats. Most people will see the HTML version, but people who don't have HTML email available will see the plain text version automatically. What about people who's email software won't read HTML email? Each referral contains an embedded plain text version that will be automatically displayed for people who can't format HTML email. Does the actual page get sent, or just a link to it? A link. Most web pages won't display properly in an email. Sending the actual page would result in a variety of problems like out of date information, broken links, missing images, etc. Can I customize the 'tell a friend' email? Yes. You can upload your logo, specify your colors, and add special content to the email. Can I add custom content to the 'tell a friend' email? Yes. You can add your own content, special offers, coupons, rewards, etc, to the email. Can I offer incentives or rewards to recipients? Yes. You can offer incentives, special rewards, digital content like coupons and ebooks, etc, to recipients via the invitation email. top
Opt-In List Building:
Can the sender join my opt-in list? Yes. The sender can join your opt-in email list with an opt-in checkbox on the 'tell a friend' form. Can the recipients join my opt-in list? Yes. The recipients can join your opt-in email list with an opt-in link in the referral invitation they receive. Can one person opt-in for another? No. That would not be a valid opt-in. Does it include an autoresponder? No. It will help you build your opt-in list by allowing senders and recipients to opt-in, but does not include an autoresponder, email marketing or list management. In order to use your list, you will need to import it to your autoresponder or email marketing provider. Can I import my opt-in list to my autoresponder? Yes. You can download your list for import to your auto-responder or email marketing software. If you use an email marketing service provider, please make sure that your email marketing provider allows list import, as some do not. Do you offer actual opt-in list management? No. We only help you build your opt-in list. In order to send email, manage your list, process opt-out requests, suppression lists, etc, you will need an autoresponder or email marketing provider. Do you offer an auto-responder service or email marketing? No. At this time, Tell A Friend King is for 'tell a friend' marketing only. top

Your reports come in three categories.
Statistics including referrals by date, referrer, page popularity, etc.
Full Referral Log including a log of full information on all referrals including subject, note, sender and recipients. Available for viewing online or download into your own spreadsheet or software. This feature can be disabled if it goes against your company privacy policy.
Opt-In Email List for viewing online or download into your own software or email marketing provider.
Can I tell how many people are making referrals? Yes. You have usage statistics including your number of referrals, time, date, which pages are most popular, and other reports. You also have options for instant referral notifications to your email. Can I see the actual referrals? Yes. Depending on your settings, you can store full copies of all referrals in your referral archive. You can view/sort them online or download them into your own spreadsheets or other software for analysis. top

We offer graphical challenge (CAPTCHA), so you can challenge each referral if you like. Our CAPTCHA includes multiple graphical challenge routines of escalating difficulty, and is automatically updated to overcome the latest OCR / CAPTCHA-breaking routines.
However, CAPTCHA is not always necessary - we have other security methods in place.
